What are we striving for? – A priest is someone who brings heaven and earth, the inner and outer worlds, the supernatural and the sensory, the divine and the human, the world of ideas and practical life into a fruitful, forward-looking relationship. This is a universally human endeavour, but it can also be a specifically professional task. In other words: a priest makes a vocation out of what can be part of every person’s life journey. Through the actions performed at the altar and the administration of the sacraments, the supernatural can be made tangibly present. From this, new life goals, ways of thinking, social structures and so on can emerge for individuals and communities alike. It goes without saying that women and men are equal partners in this task.
